Transportation Impact Sponsors Landscape Art Project at WOES

Emerald Isle, N.C. (May 10, 2018) —White Oak Elementary School is now more beautiful and also more motivational thanks in part to a generous donation from local firm Transportation Impact, which responded to a call for financial assistance from the WOES parent-teacher organization. The donation was made under the rubric of the company’s IMPACT1 (Improvements Made by People ACTing as 1) philanthropic program, which is a pledge to provide 1% in goodwill services, 1% of employee time, and 1% of company profit to the community.

Earlier this year, White Oak Elementary School’s PTO suggested that the school incorporate some art into the landscape at the school in the form of a walkway turned art project.

“We challenged the students to combine the new rock craze with the idea of having a positive impact on their fellow students. Each student chose a river rock and during their art instructional time painted their own positive message on it,” explains Jeanne Gray, WOES PTO President.

The result is a cool, abstract, school-wide art project that enables the students to take pride in their work being on display. It has also improved the school’s curb appeal for staff, students, and visitors alike. The goal is to continue to add positive messages year after year until the rock landscaping meanders across the front of the school and the positive impact touches everyone in its path.

“It’s wonderful to see the children getting so much enjoyment and creative inspiration out of something that we helped to make happen,” says TI Co-founder Travis Burt. “It’s also really rewarding to think of the long-term impact this project could have in the children’s lives, as they bring those positive messages into their hearts.”
